Canvas Studio / Vizy
Canvas Studio vs Vizy for Craft CMS page building
Writing an article and composing a page are different editing tasks. Choose the experience that fits what your authors need to change.

Canvas Studio and Vizy: two approaches to composing content
Vizy and Canvas Studio both give content authors more than a plain text field. Their emphasis is different: Vizy brings structured blocks into a rich-text editing flow; Canvas brings text and other modules into a visual page composition.
Vizy by Verbb (opens in a new tab) combines WYSIWYG content with blocks using Craft fields. Developers can associate blocks with Twig templates and control their output. It is a substantial content editor, not simply a formatting toolbar.
- Authoring focus
Vizy
Write rich text and insert structured blocks within the content.
Canvas Studio
Compose a page from visual sections, rows, columns and modules.
- Project setup
Vizy
Configure the editor, block fields and associated rendering.
Canvas Studio
Configure a theme and use its definitions across visual compositions.
- Changing the design

What authors can change depends on the blocks and controls your project provides.
Canvas Studio
Authors work with composition controls; shared Components keep their master’s design.
An editorial article or a campaign page?
Consider two requests. One author wants to place a quotation and an image between paragraphs. Another wants an image-led introduction, an offset text column and a reusable call to action, with a different arrangement on mobile.
Content in a writing flow
Vizy lets authors insert configured blocks within rich text. For an article where the main task is writing, that keeps the content together in a familiar editing surface. The project’s templates handle how the blocks look.
Content in a visual composition
Canvas makes the arrangement part of the authoring task. Place text, images and buttons in columns; adjust layout and named spacing; use responsive overrides where the composition needs to change.
A custom Vizy implementation can expose layout choices too. The question is whether your next project should build those choices into its block configuration or use an editor centred on visual composition.
Make the site’s design choices reusable
Canvas themes hold grouped palettes, font resources, typography defaults, named text styles, spacing and breakpoints. A page can use that common language while keeping its own layout.
Save a composition as a linked Component to share its structure and design across pages with local content. Use a Static copy when the new placement should become an independent design. These are useful choices when the unit you want to reuse is a composed section.
Choose around the author’s main task
- Consider Vizy when writing leads.
- For long-form content with structured inserts, a rich-text-first experience can keep authors focused on the narrative.
- Consider Canvas when composition leads.
- For marketing pages, services and portfolios, authors may need to work on proportions, spacing, responsive arrangements and shared sections as well as the words.
- Use different fields for different content.
- A site does not have to choose one editing model for everything. An article body and a campaign page can have different requirements. Existing installations still need integration testing for their particular field layouts.
Common questions
Does Canvas replace Vizy for every article?
Not necessarily. Canvas is an alternative when Vizy is being used to assemble page compositions. A writing-focused article may still be better served by its existing editor.
Can I import Vizy content directly?
No automatic Vizy-to-Canvas conversion is offered here. Assess the existing block definitions, content and Twig output before planning a move.
Can I use a saved design outside the Canvas field?
Yes. A developer can render a saved Component by UID through Twig. That allows a composition such as a shared header to be used within a custom template.
